abstract = {An algorithm for the univariate analysis of data with two random effects and a hierachical family structure by Restricted Maximum Likelihood is presented. Computing strategies are considered for models of analysis with a comparatively small number of fixed effect levels, and for models with a large number of fixed effects to be fitted. Results are given of a simulation study of hierarchical data, mimicking the data structure in a pig performance testing scheme where random and fixed effects are closely linked.
