Abstract
No comprehensive evaluation of the Nigerian indigenous fowl has previously been undertaken. According to H il l (1954) the mature weights of the male and of the female Nigerian indigenous fowl are 1-3 lb (0.45-1.35 Kg) and 1 V2-4 lb (0.68- 1.71 Kg) respectively. The fowl produces 40-80 eggs per annum each, weighin 1-1 V4 oz (28.3-35.4 g). The fowl is hardy and a good forager.
