Abstract

A brief review of poultry breeding for productive characters, specially egg laying, can be started pointing out that after the creation of the majority of the different breeds in the last century, mainly through the art of the fanciers, it is the invention of the trap-nest which helped to the development of a true practical breeding in poultry, practising only individual or mass selection with more or less closed populations still not well defined.
