In dairy and dual-purpose cattle breeding the selection of bulls is based mainly on progeny tests. For most traits e.g. milk production, reproduction and conformation, the bulls are evaluated on the basis of the daughters' performance and only for meat production traits special progeny testings are still used in larger scale.
