Abstract

Results from various straight- and crossbreeding tria ls conducted in South Africa were reviewed. The conclusion is drawn that in some instances, in itia l crossbreeding followed by inter se mating of crossbred cattle give the same i f not better results than continued crossbreeding. This fa cilita tes rangeland improvement as it lim its the number of pastures needed during the breeding season.
