Abstract
Problems associated w i t h prediction of response are d i s cussed. It is concluded that the technical problems in evaluating the standardised selection differential as a r esult of the reduct i o n in v a r iance due to inbreeding and c o r r e l a t i o n of family m e m bers and their effects on order statistics, as well as positive a nd negative assortative m a ting c o n t ributed to the disagreement b e t w e e n pred i c t e d and realised selection response.
