An analysis of the dynamics of extinction of autochtonous breeds is proposed. Whenever population numbers have not yet been drastically reduced, the conservation strategy should consider the maintenance of populations within the production systems. Populations capable of maintaining their_ vigor and potential for evolutionary adaptation will allow the preservation of genetic resources.
