Abstract
The fur industry is a young partner in animal production. It has increased considerably in volume within the last 10-15 years and it has concentrated on fewer species and fewer colour types in the same period. Selection is changing towards quantitative traits measured by the farmer's eye on a subjective scale. Use of index based selection is enabled by a computer system used on the farm. Line breeding and cross breeding programmes are used on a number of breeding farms.
