Abstract

M arker assisted selection responses w ere com puted for a poultry breeding program . Covariances betw een inform ation sources used for breeding value estim ation w ere conditioned on m arker inform ation. The m arker w as located 5 cM from a Q uantitative T rait Locus (QTL) explaining 2 0 % of the additive genetic variance. Selection w as fo r a sex-lim ited trait (egg num ber) w ith a heritability of .3 . Effect of selection on genetic (co)variances w as accounted for. A dditional selection response due to the use of a m arker w as 5 % in the generation in w hich m arker inform ation w as used for the first tim e. The extra response decreased to 1 -2 % in later generations. A fte r 10 generations QTL variance w as reduced by 3 0 % and polygenetic variance by 1 7 % .
