Abstract
Perendale sheep selection lines that are resistant or susceptible to infection by gastrointestinal nematodes were exposed to a mixed infection on pasture. Gene expression in the duodenum of these animals was then compared by hybridising labelled cDNA to an 11 k bovine cDNA array. In total 126 transcripts showed differential expression between resistant and susceptible animals. The differentially expressed genes were annotated by comparing to human RefSeqs and biological processes associated with the differentially expressed genes were found using a number of freely available analysis tools. Using this approach we identified muscle and Major Histocompatibility Complex gene expression as potential mediators of resistance in our selection lines.
