Records of 38,865 Large White pigs were used to estimate the (co)variance components and genetic parameters for age at 100 Kg live weight (A100) and backfat tickness (BF) traits, using Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML) by MTDFREML and Gibbs Sampling (GS) by MTGSAM. The estimates of the (co)variance components and genetic parameters for A100 and BF obtained by GS and REML were general, similar in both single and multiple trait analyses. Although the estimates of (co)variance components and genetic parameters obtained by GS and REML were similar, there were differences between the two methods since in general the REML estimates were not within the high density interval (at the 95% probability level) obtained by GS.
