Abstract

At Al-Nasr Dairy Cattle Station (United Company for Animal Resources Ltd.), over the period from 2000 to 2003, 1820 records produced by 733 Holstein cows were analyzed statistically. An index for the resistance to Metritis (RM) was derived for each cow depending on the duration of infection, the number and parity of infection. Holstein's cows were genetically evaluated by using the degree of resistance to Metritis. Overall means of resistance to Metritis (RM) and incidence of the disease (IM) were 86.42 and 15.16% respectively. The effect of parity, season and year of calving on RM and IM were significant. Heritability of RM, TMP (total milk production), SPC (service per consumption) and CI (calving interval) were 0.31, 0.17, 0.04 and 0.07 respectively. The genetic correlation's between RM with TMP, SPC and CI were -0.25(p<0.01), -0.07 and 0.05, while the phenotypic correlation's -0.34 (P<0.01), -0.11 and 0.05, respectively.
