The objective of the present study was to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for backfat thickness on bovine chromosome 19 (BTA19) in a beef cattle population. A total of 448 hybrid cattle (28 bulls and 420 steers) were used in this study. We conducted QTL scan for backfat thickness across BTA19 using a combination of 9 microsatellite and 96 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. The study detected QTL for daily gain in ultrasound backfat (43-44 cM, P<0.05) and final ultrasound backfat (43-46 cM, P<0.05) thickness based on across-family analyses. The detected QTL region showed remarkable agreement with QTL regions previously reported.
