Abstract

The bovine genome sequence is in the final stages of being annotated and assembled, 10 000 full-length cDNA clones are being sequenced and a haplotype map is being developed. Additional genomic resources will need to be developed to fully realize the potential of having the genome sequence and the international research community will need to collaborate to develop these additional resources. The information on the structure and function of the bovine genome will be instrumental in understanding and exploiting additive and non-additive genetic variation in future genetic selection programs.
